This started on cold mornings in the winter as a way of getting the ponies fit and ready for the challenges of a busy summer. If you cast your minds back you may remember that all the worst weather was on a Thursday. The other aim of the rides was to give local ‘Ladies’ an opportunity to return to riding and get fit along with the ponies.
The mornings have been great fun and now include young ladies, young Mums, older Mums and grand Mums. In fact the Ladies rides became such a success that the sessions have continued into the summer, and the demand so great that evening groups have been set up. These have become a social hub of Newtonmore as well as offering fun riding for all levels of experience. Originally the idea was to run an evening once a month but the demand has been such that the brilliant staff and volunteers from NRC agreed to turn out every Thursday night in order to run two fortnightly groups.
In addition to the fun of riding we ‘Ladies’ get the opportunity to get to know the lovely Ormiston Highland Ponies by grooming, tacking up and becoming involved in their care.
We are considering holding another Ladies night on Wednesday night due to popular demand. For more info or to register an interest please contact us.
